United Nations Development Programme which procures drugs for the Ministry of\u00a0Health has purchased up\u00a0medicines for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis 3\u00a0times cheaper in\u00a0compare with the MOH pricing 2014<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0the information published by\u00a0UNDP<\/a>, to\u00a0participate in\u00a0UNDP tender were proposed two offers with prices: USD 0,5 per tablet and USD 3\u00a0per tablet. The price of\u00a0an\u00a0active substance procured by\u00a0MOH in\u00a0a\u00a0previous year was USD 1,71. International organization managed to\u00a0procure medication of\u00a0a\u00a0high quality Moxifloxacin, manufactured by\u00a0Macleods pharmaceuticals Ltd, which is\u00a0widely used across the world, at\u00a0a\u00a0price of\u00a0USD 0,53 per one tablet. The total procurement cost amounts USD 142\u00a0609, 89.<\/p>\n

It\u00a0should be\u00a0noted that this medication is\u00a0also procured by\u00a0the Alliance of\u00a0Public Health with financial support from Global Fund to\u00a0Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria at\u00a0a\u00a0same price. Moxifloxacin, manufactured by\u00a0Macleods pharmaceuticals Ltd, was procured by\u00a0international organization, has received the World Health Organization\u2019s pre-qualification, and is\u00a0manufactured on\u00a0sites which have received Good Manufacturing Practice certification by\u00a0the WHO. The company-manufacturer of\u00a0this drug is\u00a0successfully working in\u00a0more than 80\u00a0countries, as\u00a0well as\u00a0in\u00a0countries-members of\u00a0EU.<\/p>\n

\u00abPublic medicines procurements in\u00a0Ukraine through international organizations\u00a0\u2014 is, above all, the opening of\u00a0the market and increase of\u00a0competition. Due to\u00a0these factors already this year the price on\u00a0a\u00a0large number of\u00a0drugs have fallen<\/em>,\u00bb\u00a0\u2014 says Olga Stefanyshyna<\/strong>, the Executive director of\u00a0the CF\u00a0\u00abPatients of\u00a0Ukraine\u00bb. \u00abThis step is\u00a0particularly important for patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, because the number of\u00a0such patients in\u00a0Ukraine increases from year to\u00a0year, and the price of\u00a0vital drugs has always been sky-high. We\u00a0welcome the steps of\u00a0international organization that has found a\u00a0way to\u00a0procure a\u00a0quality generic medicine 3\u00a0times cheaper and thus can treat many more people at\u00a0expense of\u00a0state budget already this year<\/em>.\u00bb<\/p>\n

International organizations managed to\u00a0find a\u00a0way to\u00a0procure this generic medicine for Ukraine, without violating patent rights of\u00a0a\u00a0branded drug. This happened thanks to\u00a0procurements under the state program and for non-commercial use.<\/p>\n

Already in\u00a0July 2016, these drugs will be\u00a0delivered in\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Recall, USD 9,017 693.69 was allocated for the procurement of\u00a0anti-tuberculosis drugs\u00a0\u2014 this money covered only\u00a030% of\u00a0the real need for medications according to\u00a0the calculations of\u00a0the Ukrainian Center for Socially Dangerous Disease Control of\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health of\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0February this year, UNDP has signed contracts with seven companies for the procurement of\u00a018\u00a0anti-TB drugs. The total contracted amount\u00a0\u2014 is\u00a0USD 6,720,427. According to\u00a0the tender result UNDP managed to\u00a0procure all the anti-TB drugs listed by\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Health, except for Moxifloxacin, to\u00a0procure which longterm negotiations were sustained. Overall, 17\u00a0of\u00a018\u00a0medications have been procured at\u00a0cheaper prices in\u00a0comparison with MOH pricing 2014.<\/p>\n
