{"id":11695,"date":"2014-02-10T15:39:42","date_gmt":"2014-02-10T15:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/?p=11695"},"modified":"2024-04-17T18:54:56","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T18:54:56","slug":"ucab-changes-its-name-into-patients-of-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/en\/news\/ucab-changes-its-name-into-patients-of-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"UCAB changes its name into \u2018Patients of Ukraine\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the last UCAB meeting on\u00a0February 3-5 in\u00a0Kyiv, the members agreed to\u00a0change the name into <strong>Charitable foundation \u2018Patients of\u00a0Ukraine\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018Renaming is\u00a0completely logical evolution for our organization,\u00a0\u2014 <\/em>says Dmytro Sherembey, the Head of\u00a0the Board of <strong>&#8220;Patients of\u00a0Ukraine (UCAB)&#8221;<\/strong>.<em> \u2014\u00a0When establishing the organization we\u00a0took the European prototype of\u00a0patients\u2019 communities (ECAB) as\u00a0an\u00a0example. It\u00a0was established to\u00a0protect the rights of\u00a0patients before the pharmaceutical companies, first of\u00a0all\u00a0\u2014 the rights of\u00a0people living with HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis. But we\u00a0realized, that while focusing on\u00a0these diseases we\u00a0nonetheless can help much more patients with various diseases: from cancer to\u00a0rare childhood diseases like cystic fibrosis. That\u2019s why we\u00a0decided to\u00a0shift to\u00a0the new clear and comprehensible name\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0will use the double name <strong>&#8220;Patients of\u00a0Ukraine (UCAB)&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0adapt to\u00a0the new one for 6\u00a0months more. After that only the name \u2018Patients of\u00a0Ukraine\u2019 will be\u00a0used in\u00a0all media and other materials.<br \/>\nDue to\u00a0expansion of\u00a0activity areas, the membership was also extended. The representatives of\u00a0the patients\u2019 organizations dealing with cancer and rare childhood diseases, cystic fibrosis in\u00a0particular, joined \u00abPatients of\u00a0Ukraine (UCAB)\u00bb at\u00a0the General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The members unanimously agreed not only on\u00a0renaming, but also on\u00a0the idea of\u00a0UCAB activities expansion and including other diseases. The diseases will include those covered by\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health hospital programs: phenylketonuria, cardio-vascular diseases, autism, Down-syndrome, mucopolysaccharidosis, diabetes etc.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018The advocacy of\u00a0the state funds for treatment of\u00a0all state programs was chosen as\u00a0a\u00a0priority area for the year 2014,\u00a0\u2014 states Olga Stefanyshyna, the Executive Director of <strong>&#8220;Patients of\u00a0Ukraine (UCAB)&#8221;<\/strong>. \u2014\u00a0Besides, we\u00a0realized that increase of\u00a0funding and patients\u2019 monitoring of\u00a0spending these funds don\u2019t solve all the main problems in\u00a0healthcare.
