The prices of\u00a0drugs for hepatitis C\u00a0treatment, procured at\u00a0the expense of\u00a0the state budget will be\u00a0reduced at\u00a0least by\u00a0half. It\u00a0resulted from the agreements reached by\u00a0NGOs, the Ministry of\u00a0Health and pharmaceutical companies ROCHE and MSD, the manufacturers of\u00a0drugs for hepatitis\u00a0C in\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n
MSD Ukraine was the first company to\u00a0announce such price reduction on\u00a0Wednesday, Sept.\u00a011, during a\u00a0meeting of\u00a0the commission at\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health for procurement of\u00a0the first batch of\u00a0drugs for patients with hepatitis\u00a0C within the newly approved state program to\u00a0combat hepatitis.<\/p>\n
At\u00a0the meeting an\u00a0official letter was issued, wich contained information about price reduction for the essential Hepatitis C\u00a0drug\u00a0\u2014 pegylated interferon from MSD Ukraine by\u00a050\u00a0%.
\n\u2018Having received the prior consent of\u00a0one of\u00a0the two manufacturers to\u00a0reduce prices by\u00a050\u00a0%, we\u00a0decided to\u00a0negotiate a\u00a0discount of\u00a0at\u00a0least\u00a050% with another manufacturer\u2019, \u2014 says Dmytro Sherembey, chairman of\u00a0patient organization UCAB.<\/p>\n
These agreements were reached today, 16\u00a0September, at\u00a0a\u00a0meeting of\u00a0representatives of\u00a0patient organization UCAB and management of\u00a0ROCHE Ukraine.<\/p>\n
“Taking into account the approval of\u00a0the State program to\u00a0combat hepatitis, as\u00a0well as\u00a0the high demand for drugs for the Ukrainians, we\u00a0decided to\u00a0reduce the price of\u00a0pegylated interferon in\u00a0Ukraine by\u00a050%, so\u00a0that more people could get treatment this year,”<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 said Dejan Nesic<\/strong>, Director of\u00a0ROCHE Ukraine.<\/p>\n “During the first meeting of\u00a0the tender commission at\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health, the officials attempted to\u00a0adapt only one manufacturer under the terms of\u00a0their tender<\/em>,\u00a0\u2014 says Olga Stefanyshyna,<\/strong> executive director of\u00a0patient organizations UCAB<\/strong>,\u00a0\u2014 We\u00a0won\u2019t allow this . And we\u00a0openly declare that we\u00a0will make every effort to\u00a0ensure that this first and historical HCV treatment State procurement is\u00a0fair and transparent. If\u00a0they attempt to\u00a0monopolize the tender under a\u00a0single company, we\u00a0will refer to\u00a0all regulatory authorities and the Antimonopoly Committee. \nHepatitis C\u00a0is the most common epidemic in\u00a0Ukraine. Approximately\u00a03,5 million of\u00a0Ukrainians are infected with viral hepatitis. The disease is\u00a0dangerous because you can get infected in\u00a0the hospital when handling blood, at\u00a0a\u00a0dentists\u2019 and even in\u00a0the nail salon. Up\u00a0to\u00a0now, the average course of\u00a0hepatitis\u00a0C treatment in\u00a0Ukraine costed almost UAH 100,000. And the state in\u00a022\u00a0years of\u00a0independence has not allocated a\u00a0single hryvnya to\u00a0fight the epidemic. Now thanks to\u00a0the adoption of\u00a0the state program and bulk procurement of\u00a0drugs it\u00a0is\u00a0possible to\u00a0reduce the price of\u00a0drugs and make drugs more affordable for those patients who need them. For example, thanks to\u00a0the government\u2019s agreements with pharmaceutical companies, the treatment of\u00a0hepatitis\u00a0C in\u00a0Egypt costs $\u00a02,000, that is\u00a0ten times cheaper than in\u00a0Ukraine.[\/dt_quote]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
