\"ArticleHIV-positive patients of\u00a0Lavra clinic have lost faith in\u00a0empty promises of\u00a0authorities and handcuffed themselves to\u00a0the cots in\u00a0the Clinic\u2019s in-patients department. In\u00a0this manner the activists decided to\u00a0express position of\u00a09000 clinic\u2019s patients. Representatives of\u00a0All-Ukrainian Network of\u00a0People Living with HIV promise to\u00a0stay on\u00a0the premises until the clinic is\u00a0relocated to\u00a0the promised building on\u00a0Amosova Street. This statement the activists made today at\u00a0a\u00a0press briefing at\u00a0the Lavra Clinic premises.<\/p>\n

Patients presented a\u00a0copy of\u00a0the order stating that the in-patient department of\u00a0the Clinic has to\u00a0be\u00a0relocated to\u00a0the former dermatovenerologic clinic building on\u00a0Halytska Street. According to\u00a0the experts conclusions, this building cannot be\u00a0used as\u00a0a\u00a0hospital for HIV-positive patients or\u00a0for patients diagnosed with hepatitis.<\/p>\n

\u00abOur action is\u00a0a\u00a0protest against lies that they are trying to\u00a0feed\u00a0us with. Before our eyes, they ignore all documented agreements that are fixed in\u00a0the Memorandum. Those who make these decisions are guided by\u00a0obscure motives and do\u00a0not even consider bringing construction of\u00a0a\u00a0new hospital on\u00a0Amosov Street to\u00a0the completion\u00bb \u2014<\/em>\u00a0said in\u00a0his speech Vitaliy Tkachuk<\/strong>, HIV-positive patient of\u00a0the Clinic.<\/p>\n

Recall that on\u00a0July 11\u00a0a trilateral memorandum between the NAMS of\u00a0Ukraine, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and patients was signed which, inter alia, stated that the parties agree \u00abon\u00a0the integrity of\u00a0the Hromashevsky Institute of\u00a0Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases on\u00a0the territory of\u00a0the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra until the construction of\u00a0a\u00a0new building for the Clinic at\u00a05, Amosova Str. is\u00a0completed\u00bb. However, the senior officials of\u00a0NAMS of\u00a0Ukraine are now trying to\u00a0put pressure on\u00a0doctors and hospital staff, to\u00a0force the institution to\u00a0move into the building on\u00a0Halytska street.<\/p>\n

During the press briefing the media representatives were shown video appeal of\u00a0the Hegumen of\u00a0the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, His Eminence Pavel. \u00abAll this blackmailing of\u00a0doctors and patients has to\u00a0be\u00a0stopped. I\u00a0would like to\u00a0ask Mr. Serdyuk not to\u00a0do\u00a0this. There is\u00a0no\u00a0need to\u00a0destroy the agreement. Memorandum is\u00a0still in\u00a0effect and\u00a0we [the Church] are on\u00a0the side of\u00a0this document.\u00bb<\/em> \u2014 said the Hegumen<\/strong> in\u00a0his video appeal.<\/p>\n

It\u00a0should be\u00a0noted that the conflict around the Clinic started back in\u00a02011 when the Academy of\u00a0Medical Sciences of\u00a0Ukraine issued a\u00a0decree to\u00a0disband the hospital and relocate its parts to\u00a0various healthcare facilities. Since then, the clinic is\u00a0in\u00a0the midst of\u00a0constant conflict. Only after vigorous protest and pressure from the international community patients managed to\u00a0defend their right to\u00a0be\u00a0treated in\u00a0the Clinic. Under the terms of\u00a0the Memorandum, relocation would be\u00a0carried out only after the \u00abconsistent and thorough checks by\u00a0the Parties of\u00a0completion of\u00a0new premises at\u00a05, Amosova Street in\u00a0Kiev, to\u00a0ensure compliance with European and national standards and the needs of\u00a0patients\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\u00abWe\u00a0have handcuffed ourselves to\u00a0survive! This is\u00a0our reaction to\u00a0the iniquities of\u00a0the President of\u00a0the Academy of\u00a0Medical Sciences.
