which had previously been purchased by\u00a0MoH<\/a> and which did not treat, but even harmed children\u00a0\u2014 would not write in\u00a0the instructions that the drug treats cystic fibrosis and therefore couldn\u2019t apply to\u00a0the tenders.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\nIt\u00a0should be\u00a0recalled that last year, the Ministry of\u00a0Health procured the drug \u00abKreazim\u00bb for the treatment of\u00a0children with cystic fibrosis, as\u00a0it\u00a0appeared to\u00a0be\u00a0the cheapest and complied with the active ingredient required in\u00a0the tender announcement. It\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0biological drug that, in\u00a0fact, replaces enzymes that are not produced in\u00a0children with this diagnosis. This purchase by\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health resulted in\u00a0tremendous resistance from the public and parents of\u00a0young patients because the use of\u00a0generics (the cheap substitutes) for the treatment of\u00a0children with cystic fibrosis is\u00a0not recommended worldwide for their possible side effects. In\u00a0Ukraine, due to\u00a0the very low price and a\u00a0similar composition, the Ministry of\u00a0Health had purchased these drugs.<\/p>\n
Registration certificate for this drug was issued in\u00a02005, taking into account the main active ingredient\u00a0\u2014 pancreatin\u00a0\u2014 which is\u00a0effective in\u00a0treatment for many diseases. However, once MoH has received complaints from patients, the special working group examined this issue and came to\u00a0the conclusion that the effect of\u00a0the active ingredient may vary for rare diseases such as\u00a0cystic fibrosis. Therefore the working group recommended the manufacturer to\u00a0exclude this disease from the instruction. Today, the manufacturer agreed to\u00a0follow this recommendation.
\nParents of\u00a0young patients rejoiced over such a\u00a0solution being those who had written letters to\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health requesting high-quality drugs for their children. \u00abAfter my\u00a0child was first given \u201eKreazim\u201c in\u00a0the hospital, I\u00a0began to\u00a0give it\u00a0to\u00a0her. But weight loss, abdominal pain and other symptoms made it\u00a0clear that there was something wrong with the drug,<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 says the mother of\u00a0four-year-old Daria. \u2014\u00a0So\u00a0later\u00a0I began to\u00a0just throw \u201eKreazim\u201c, given for free, in\u00a0the trash-bin. And then\u00a0I refused even to\u00a0receive it\u00a0in\u00a0the clinic altogether. I\u00a0just went to\u00a0the drugstore and bought a\u00a0quality drug. But it\u2019s a\u00a0lot of\u00a0money, while\u00a0I don\u2019t have enough even for food. I\u2019m glad now that my\u00a0child will have a\u00a0chance to\u00a0get normal drugs from the state.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\nWe\u00a0would like to\u00a0note that today there are about 800 people in\u00a0Ukraine suffering from this disease. Almost all of\u00a0the patients are children, because in\u00a0Ukraine, due to\u00a0substandard care, only 1\u00a0in\u00a010\u00a0children with this diagnosis lives to\u00a0the age of\u00a018. In\u00a0Europe the average life expectancy of\u00a0these patients is\u00a043\u00a0years. Cystic fibrosis is\u00a0a\u00a0rare genetic disease that causes serious disturbances in\u00a0the work of\u00a0internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system.
