State Budget of\u00a0Ukraine for 2013, voted on\u00a0today by\u00a0the Verkhovna Rada of\u00a0Ukraine, became fatal sentence for 110,000 Ukrainians living with HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis\u00a0\u2014 it\u00a0was reported today by\u00a0the representatives of\u00a0UCAB patient organization that fights for the treatment for people living with terminal diseases in\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Even sick kids, who came to\u00a0beg MPs not to\u00a0vote for the devastating budget, could not stop them.\u00a0242 deputies voted for the document that would kill 110,000 of\u00a0their compatriots.<\/p>\n
\u00abI\u00a0lost my\u00a0mother when\u00a0I was 6\u00a0years old. Then I\u00a0found out that\u00a0I had HIV. It\u00a0was hard. I\u00a0had no\u00a0one to\u00a0whom to\u00a0talk with. I\u00a0really do\u00a0not want other kids feel like this when their parents die because of\u00a0the lack of\u00a0treatment.\u00bb<\/em> \u2014 Told an\u00a0HIV-positive Lisa, 13\u00a0years old<\/strong>. She came to\u00a0the Parliament to\u00a0ask the deputies not to\u00a0vote for this budget.<\/p>\n Today, patients with AIDS, hepatitis and tuberculosis came to\u00a0the Parliament to\u00a0demand on\u00a0the will of\u00a0the President of\u00a0Ukraine, ignored by\u00a0the Government, and to\u00a0amend the 2013 budget money for the treatment of\u00a0terminally-sick Ukrainians. After the recent action \u00abUKRAINE under QURANTINE!,\u00bb the President insisted on\u00a0full funding of\u00a0treatment for people living with HIV, TB\u00a0and hepatitis. This position was posted on\u00a0the official website of\u00a0the President of\u00a0Ukraine: http:\/\/www.ucab.org.ua\/en\/node\/172<\/p>\n Unfortunately, the Government ignored Presidential appeal, giving 0\u00a0UAH budgeted in\u00a02013 for the treatment of\u00a0hepatitis, and only\u00a040% for AIDS and tuberculosis, which will cause to\u00a0the death of\u00a0110,000 Ukrainians next year.<\/p>\n \u00abThis is\u00a0our last desperate step to\u00a0bring the kids to\u00a0the Parliament,<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 says Dmitry Sherembey, chairman of\u00a0Patient Organization UCAB.<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0But the deputies voted for the budget which is\u00a0the disaster for Ukraine, attacked by\u00a0the three epidemics. We\u00a0are confident that the President will veto this law because it\u00a0contradicts his position. This is\u00a0our last hope. \u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n One billion of\u00a0Hryvnias is\u00a0just one third of\u00a0the total amount that is\u00a0annually allocated for sanatorium-and-spa treatment as\u00a0well as\u00a0health improvement of\u00a0government officials. Recently the state has allocated one billion of\u00a0Hryvnias to\u00a0install video surveillance equipment at\u00a0polling stations.
