{"id":11581,"date":"2012-11-13T07:54:38","date_gmt":"2012-11-13T07:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/?p=11581"},"modified":"2024-04-17T14:20:50","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T14:20:50","slug":"ukraine-under-quarantine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/en\/news\/ukraine-under-quarantine\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine under QUARANTINE!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00abUkraine under QUARANTINE!\u00bb\u00a0\u2014 this is\u00a0the letter received today by\u00a0the Ambassadors of\u00a0foreign countries to\u00a0Ukraine.<!--more--> This is\u00a0how community and patient organizations have warned the global community about three epidemics raging in\u00a0Ukraine: hepatitis, TB\u00a0and AIDS. This is\u00a0how Ukrainians with life-threatening diseases tried to\u00a0draw attention of\u00a0high officials toward complete disregard of\u00a0the problem of\u00a0epidemics in\u00a0their country.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0statistics, today every 10th Ukrainian is\u00a0infected with hepatitis, TB\u00a0or\u00a0AIDS. That is\u00a0why under the current policy of\u00a0the government in\u00a0the nearest future Ukraine will became a\u00a0life-threatening country not only to\u00a0live\u00a0in, but to\u00a0visit as\u00a0well. Thus, for example, the draft of\u00a0the state budget for 2013 envisages 0\u00a0Hryvnias 0\u00a0kopeks for treatment of\u00a0people with hepatitis. That does not only mean death sentence for millions of\u00a0Ukrainians but a\u00a0sizable push towards further rolling out of\u00a0the epidemic, as\u00a0the global practice demonstrated that the epidemic can be\u00a0stopped only by\u00a0efficient treatment of\u00a0those people who are already infected.<\/p>\n<p><em> \u00abExactly two months ago we\u00a0appealed to\u00a0the President of\u00a0Ukraine Victor Yanukovich with a\u00a0request to\u00a0mandate the Cabinet of\u00a0Ministers to\u00a0envisage 1\u00a0billion of\u00a0Hryvnias in\u00a0the next year budget for the treatment of\u00a0people with these three infections<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 states <strong>Dmitro Sherembey, Head of\u00a0UCAB patient organization.<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0<em>We\u00a0were not heard, that is\u00a0why there is\u00a0only one way out for Ukraine today\u00a0\u2014 close the state border for quarantine. As\u00a0long as\u00a0state officials keep silent about the real scope of\u00a0these epidemics, we\u00a0decided to\u00a0warn everyone about the threat waiting for them in\u00a0Ukraine.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0order to\u00a0draw attention, patients and leaders wearing masks came to\u00a0the Administration of\u00a0the President of\u00a0Ukraine to\u00a0pass on\u00a0the letter with the appeal to\u00a0not to\u00a0let the disaster happen in\u00a0Ukraine and save millions of\u00a0lives through allocation of\u00a01\u00a0billion of\u00a0Hryvnias for treatment of\u00a0these diseases, or\u00a0officially admitting an\u00a0epidemic in\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p><em> \u00abA\u00a0couple of\u00a0days ago the government has approved funding for Feofania hospital serving high officials in\u00a0the amount of\u00a0half a\u00a0billion Hryvnias,<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 says <strong>Oleg Martyniuk, a\u00a0patient with hepatitis.<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0<em>And that was done in\u00a0the times when every 13th Ukrainian is\u00a0infected with hepatitis, and the state allocates 0\u00a0Hryvnias for their treatment pleading absence of\u00a0money. These patients are doomed, but government officials continue to\u00a0make their own hospital flourish.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>At\u00a0this time, in\u00a0the draft of\u00a0state budget of\u00a0Ukraine for 2013 according to\u00a0State special-purpose programs, the need of\u00a0HIV\/AIDS treatment is\u00a0covered at\u00a045%, TB\u00a0\u2014 less than\u00a040% and no\u00a0funds for Hepatitis treatment for adults is\u00a0planned, at\u00a0the same time according to\u00a0the MOH the current need is\u00a02\u00a0605 billion UAH.<\/p>\n<p>One billion of\u00a0Hryvnias is\u00a0just one third of\u00a0the total amount that is\u00a0annually allocated for sanatorium-and-spa treatment as\u00a0well as\u00a0health improvement of\u00a0government officials. Recently the state has allocated one billion of\u00a0Hryvnias to\u00a0install video surveillance equipment at\u00a0polling stations.
