For more than a\u00a0year already international and patient organizations tried to\u00a0get precise information from Mili Healthcare pharmaceutical company about their new biosimilar product Peginterferon for HCV\u00a0treatment. This drug was registered in\u00a02010 and is\u00a0now on\u00a0its way for wide marketing in\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n
At\u00a0the same time, no\u00a0reliable data on\u00a0quality, safety and effectiveness of\u00a0this drug was submitted to\u00a0any governmental bodies. \u00abIt\u2019s just ridiculous, when a\u00a0company tries to\u00a0say that data about the drug is\u00a0confidential and belongs to\u00a0the laboratory, where this trial was made. Even patients cannot receive this data\u00a0\u2014 those people who will undergo this experiment\u00bb.<\/em> \u2014\u00a0says Olha Havrylova, UCAB deputy Head, CEO of\u00a0the NGO \u00abStop Hepatitis\u00bb.<\/strong><\/p>\n Starting from November this year the company was going to\u00a0start trial of\u00a0the drug with unknown compounds and quality on\u00a0Ukrainians, and for a\u00a0couple of\u00a0months was trying to\u00a0aggressively recruit patients to\u00a0it. \u00abThis piece of\u00a0news was completely unexpected for\u00a0us. There\u2019s almost no\u00a0HCV treatment in\u00a0Ukraine while its price gains USD US$20,000 per year. And there are up\u00a0to\u00a03\u00a0mln. people living with HCV in\u00a0Ukraine. Naturally, people will take any risk in\u00a0order to\u00a0cure this disease. Fortunately, patients intervened into situation, and the company declared that the trial will not be\u00a0launched before our patient organization doesn\u2019t have reliable data about the drug and approve trial protocol, which is\u00a0going to\u00a0be\u00a0held in\u00a0Ukraine.\u00bb<\/em> said Dmytro Sherembey, the Head of\u00a0UCAB, and the Director of\u00a0Communication, Policy &\u00a0Advocacy Department of\u00a0the All-Ukrainian Network of\u00a0PLWH.<\/strong><\/p>\n Due to\u00a0the presence of\u00a0key governmental bodies at\u00a0the meeting\u00a0\u2014 the State expert Center and the Central Ethical Committee of\u00a0the MoH of\u00a0Ukraine\u00a0\u2014 the patients managed to\u00a0persuade the pharmaceutical company to\u00a0register their trial in\u00a0the state bodies according to\u00a0the legislation of\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n Additional information:<\/strong> At\u00a0the same time, possibilities of\u00a0Ukrainian patients to\u00a0get high quality treatment are seriously limited.
