Such agreement was reached at\u00a0the meeting of\u00a0pharmaceutical company MSD representatives and the members of\u00a0UCAB.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00ab10\u00a0years ago, when there was no\u00a0treatment in\u00a0Ukraine at\u00a0all, we\u00a0were happy with at\u00a0least some medications. And we\u00a0didn\u2019t care if\u00a0there is\u00a0any license. At\u00a0that moment\u00a0I weighed 40\u00a0kilos and my\u00a0life was saved due to\u00a0generic company, which brought this treatment to\u00a0Ukraine, not having any license.<\/em> \u2014\u00a0<strong>said Dmytro Sherembey, the Head of\u00a0UCAB and the Director of\u00a0Communication, Policy &amp;\u00a0Advocacy Department of\u00a0the \u00abAll-Ukrainian Network of\u00a0PLWH<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 <em>It\u2019s today that we\u00a0understand: every generic drug should have appropriate quality and WHO prequalification should become an\u00a0obligatory condition for the state procurements in\u00a0Ukraine.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Second important topic raised by\u00a0the patients was access to\u00a0ART in\u00a0Ukraine, which includes its high price as\u00a0a\u00a0barrier. <em>\u00abThere are severe financial shortages for treatment procurements in\u00a0Ukraine. Thousands of\u00a0patients are in\u00a0the waiting lists. The government will never choose to\u00a0procure the drug, which costs US$600 per month. That\u2019s why we\u00a0will cooperate with pharmaceutical companies in\u00a0order they decrease prices for life-saving medications and take the standard of\u00a0living in\u00a0our country into account.<\/em> \u2014\u00a0<strong>said Yaroslav Blyakharskiy, UCAB member.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0tradition, training sessions preceded the meeting with pharmaceutical company. The leading UNDP expert Boyan Konstantinov had specific visit to\u00a0Kyiv in\u00a0order to\u00a0provide Ukrainian patients with the knowledge on\u00a0the main aspects of\u00a0intellectual property rights and its influence on\u00a0access to\u00a0treatment in\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0the near future a\u00a0specific UCAB meeting devoted to\u00a0virus Hepatitis treatment should take place, as\u00a0there is\u00a0no\u00a0such a\u00a0treatment in\u00a0Ukraine at\u00a0the moment. <em>\u00abThere\u2019s no\u00a0definite data on\u00a0the number of\u00a0people living with Hepatitis in\u00a0Ukraine. They only say it\u2019s from 1\u00a0to\u00a03\u00a0millions people.
