The first meeting of\u00a0Ukrainian Community Advisory Board (UCAB) and the representatives of\u00a0pharmaceutical company took place on\u00a0April, 19-21. The first company, who met the community, was Abbott Laboratories Ltd. \u00abThe main theme of\u00a0the meeting was the training for UCAB members on\u00a0clinical trials, conducted by\u00a0the leading specialist in\u00a0Europe\u00a0\u2014 Svilen Konov\u00a0\u2014 told Dmytro Sherembey, the Head of\u00a0UCAB. \u2014\u00a0Nowadays Ukraine occupies one of\u00a0the last places in\u00a0the list of\u00a0European countries conducting clinical trials. And this factor considerably influences the quality of\u00a0treatment for our patients.\u00bb<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0the information presented, about 230 clinical trials are approved in\u00a0Ukraine every year, while 4\u00a0949 are conducted in\u00a0the United States, 1020 in\u00a0Germany, 944 in\u00a0Canada, 747 in\u00a0France and 703 in\u00a0Great Britain. Psychiatry, neurology and oncology are the main areas, where clinical trials are conducted in\u00a0Ukraine. And only 5\u00a0clinical trials were conducted in\u00a0the area of\u00a0HIV\/AIDS\u00a0\u2014 the disease, which takes lives of\u00a08\u00a0Ukrainians every day. It\u2019s worth to\u00a0mention, that the meeting resulted into the agreement to\u00a0include UCAB representatives into Central Commission on\u00a0Ethics under the Ministry of\u00a0Health of\u00a0Ukraine. This Comission is\u00a0an\u00a0independent scientific body ensuring patients\u2019 rights, safety and well-being.
