{"id":11501,"date":"2011-04-07T11:23:10","date_gmt":"2011-04-07T11:23:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/?p=11501"},"modified":"2024-04-17T10:56:32","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T10:56:32","slug":"meeting-with-gilead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/en\/news\/meeting-with-gilead\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting with Gilead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>During the meeting of\u00a0Ukrainian Community Advisory Board (UCAB) with the representatives of\u00a0Gilead Sciences, an\u00a0opportunity to\u00a0supply in-kind drugs donation for more than 3,000 Ukrainian patients living with HIV was discussed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abWe\u00a0predict treatment interruptions in\u00a0the autumn of\u00a0this year in\u00a0Ukraine due to\u00a0delays and shortages in\u00a0state treatment procurement\u00bb, <\/em>said <strong>Dmytro Sherembey, the Head of\u00a0UCAB, and the Director of\u00a0Communication, Policy &amp;\u00a0Advocacy Department of\u00a0the All-Ukrainian Network of\u00a0PLWH.<\/strong><em> He\u00a0continued, \u00abAs\u00a0our Government is\u00a0unable to\u00a0provide people with essential drugs, we, the patients directly asked pharmaceutical companies to\u00a0donate treatment for people in\u00a0need. First of\u00a0all, it\u00a0was done to\u00a0prevent treatment interruptions, which could also happen at\u00a0the beginning of\u00a0this year. Nevertheless, this step is\u00a0like \u201efirst aid\u201c for those people. In\u00a0order to\u00a0overcome the epidemic, the Government should significantly revise the process of\u00a0ART supply for PLWH. In\u00a0case this doesn\u2019t happen, there is\u00a0no\u00a0possibility to\u00a0stop the spread of\u00a0HIV\/AIDS in\u00a0Ukraine in\u00a0a\u00a0couple of\u00a0years\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Leading national experts provided training for the patients in\u00a0UCAB on\u00a0the basics of\u00a0treatment and diagnostics in\u00a0the area of\u00a0HIV\/AIDS and Hepatitis. <em>\u00abNo\u00a0later than 2013 the current clinical protocol on\u00a0ART for HIV should be\u00a0revised, and\u00a0I actively support participation of\u00a0PLWH in\u00a0this process\u00bb <\/em>said <strong>Dr\u00a0Svitlana Antonyak, the Head of\u00a0HIV\/AIDS Department of\u00a0the Institute of\u00a0Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases named after Hromashevskyi L.V. of\u00a0the Academy of\u00a0Medical Sciences of\u00a0Ukraine.<\/strong> Dr\u00a0Antonyak continued,<em> \u00abI\u00a0consider that The All-Ukrainian Network of\u00a0PLWH is\u00a0doing its best to\u00a0support patients in\u00a0playing the main role in\u00a0this process, as\u00a0their lives directly depend on\u00a0it.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another achievement of\u00a0the UCAB meeting with Gilead was the agreement to\u00a0include Ukraine into the list of\u00a0countries, where the last phase of\u00a0clinical trials could be\u00a0held. These trials are launched for many years around the world and in\u00a0the final stage. Olha Havrylova, Deputy Head of\u00a0UCAB and CEO of\u00a0the NGO Stop Hepatitis&#8221; stated <em>\u00abMany Ukrainians could get newly invented drugs free of\u00a0charge. It\u00a0could be\u00a0a\u00a0real breakthrough for our country, where Hepatitis C\u00a0treatment is\u00a0not available for an\u00a0average citizen. While there are up\u00a0to\u00a05% of\u00a0the total population of\u00a0Ukraine are living with Hepatitis C\u00a0and the cost of\u00a0an\u00a0annual treatment coarse is\u00a0about US$20,000.
