{"id":11497,"date":"2011-01-31T18:39:54","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T18:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/?p=11497"},"modified":"2024-04-17T11:29:17","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T11:29:17","slug":"presentation-meeting-ucab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/patients.org.ua\/en\/news\/presentation-meeting-ucab\/","title":{"rendered":"Presentation meeting UCAB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New player in\u00a0pharmaceutical market of\u00a0Ukraine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0January 31-st the first open meeting of\u00a0UCAB\u00a0\u2014 a\u00a0specialized board of\u00a0patients for lobbying their interests in\u00a0front of\u00a0pharmaceutical companies\u00a0\u2014 took place.<!--more--> UCAB unites patients living with most socially dangerous diseases in\u00a0Ukraine: people living with HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis in\u00a0order to\u00a0protect their rights aiming the pharmaceutical business and the government. Lives of\u00a0each UCAB member depend on\u00a0the quality, access to\u00a0and effectiveness of\u00a0treatment they get. That is\u00a0why UCAB is\u00a0to\u00a0become influential part on\u00a0pharmaceutical market of\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Patients, representatives of\u00a0non-governmental organizations, international funds, leading pharmaceutical companies met at\u00a0the round table \u00abThe dialog begins: patients and pharma\u00bb. Representatives of\u00a0the Ministry of\u00a0Health, Ukrainian AIDS Center, State pharmacological Center were invited to\u00a0the meeting as\u00a0well. Unfortunately, governmental officials ignored the invitation as\u00a0usually.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abWhen the board of\u00a0patients, representing powerful NGOs, starts functioning, the government and pharmaceutical business should understand, that the patient becomes an\u00a0equal part of\u00a0relations between pharmaceutical industry and the government,\u00a0\u2014 <\/em>said <strong>Dmytro Sherembey, the Head of\u00a0UCAB.<\/strong><em> \u2014\u00a0From now on\u00a0the market regulation will be\u00a0more public and transparent, as\u00a0patients, like no\u00a0other, have personal interest in\u00a0the high quality expertise and market development. Because their own lives depend on\u00a0it.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p>300\u00a0mln. Hryvna are provided by\u00a0the State budget in\u00a02011 to\u00a0overcome HIV\/AIDS and\u00a0TB epidemics in\u00a0Ukraine. Unfortunately, the majority of\u00a0these funds are applied ineffectively. \u00abUkrainian budget provides not more than 0\u00a0Hryvna to\u00a0fight hepatitis next year. And it\u00a0happens in\u00a0the country, where the number of\u00a0people living with chronic hepatitis is\u00a0more than 270\u00a0thousands, according to\u00a0\u00abThe L. Hromashevsky Institute of\u00a0epidemiology and infectious diseases \u00bb, \u2014 said Olha Havrylova, the deputy Head of\u00a0UCAB, the Head of\u00a0\u00abStop Hepatitis\u00bb NGO. That is\u00a0why the UCAB priority in\u00a0its relations with the government is\u00a0focused on\u00a0the medical products procurement, namely: price and quality control, as\u00a0well as\u00a0the level of\u00a0funding provided. UCAB goal in\u00a0its relations with pharmaceutical companies is\u00a0focused on\u00a0access to\u00a0high quality treatment in\u00a0Ukraine, influencing existing expertise, participation of\u00a0patients in\u00a0clinical trials.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00ab12\u00a0Ukrainians die from AIDS and 22\u00a0from\u00a0TB everyday\u00a0\u2014 <\/em>says <strong>Volodymyr Zhovtyak, the Head of\u00a0Coordination Council of\u00a0the Network of\u00a0PLWH.<\/strong><em> The majority of\u00a0these people could be\u00a0alive now thanks to\u00a0high quality and timely treatment. Our organization has rich experience in\u00a0the sphere of\u00a0patients\u2019 rights protection. We\u00a0initiated UCAB establishment in\u00a0order to\u00a0make a\u00a0patient to\u00a0be\u00a0powerful force, whose rights are followed within Ukrainian medical market\u00bb.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Similar organization of\u00a0patients\u00a0\u2014 European Community Advisory Board (ECAB)\u00a0\u2014 exists in\u00a0Europe for many years already. ECAB is\u00a0today significantly influencing new drugs registration in\u00a0European market, controls their availability and pricing. According to\u00a0Konstantin Lezhentsev, ECAB member since 2003: <em>\u00abIt\u2019s due to\u00a0ECAB Ukraine is\u00a0included into the \u201eAbbot price reduction strategy\u201c list of\u00a0countries with. In\u00a02006 during an\u00a0open meeting between pharmaceutical companies and ECAB members it\u00a0also became possible to\u00a0lower the price for Tenofovir for Ukraine through negotiations with production company in\u00a0London.\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00abWe\u00a0hope, that UCAB will become as\u00a0powerful in\u00a0Ukrainian medical market, as\u00a0ECAB is\u00a0in\u00a0European\u00a0\u2014 <\/em>says <strong>Wim Vandevelde, ECAB Head.<\/strong><em> \u2014\u00a0We\u00a0managed to\u00a0make both pharmaceutical companies and governmental bodies start listening to\u00a0us.
