This anti-corruption initiative was presented\u00a0by the Executive director of CF \u201cPatients of Ukraine\u201d Olga Stefanyshyna during the contest \u201cStop corruption: public action in the Odesa region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that a year ago in Odesa Oblast at the initiative of the CF \u201cPatients of Ukraine\u201d and due to the support of the Odesa Regional State Administration a pilot project aimed at opening data on medicines leftovers in every hospital was launched. As of now, web-site liky.odesa.ua contains the information on the availability of medicines in 111 hospitals of the Oblast. This information is updated weekly through automated accounting system.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThousands of Ukrainians are dying due to lack of medicines, because of corruption schemes in hospitals. The State procures drugs, but almost none of the patients receives these drugs. The reason is sompe &#8211;\u00a0year after year medicines procured at the expense of public funds are reselling. Thanks to the political will in the Odesa Oblast and support of the IF \u201cRenaissance\u201d we managed to open data on medicines leftovers available in every hospital of the Oblast. This initiative allows each patient to enter to the web-site, to check the availability of prescribed medicines in the hospital and to demand them free of charge\u201d,<\/em> <strong>stated Olga Stefanyshyna, the Executive director of the CF \u201cPatients of Ukraine\u201d<\/strong>. <em>We have started with an idea and got a result which overcomes the corruption schemes in hospitals. Now Odesa experience extends to other Oblasts of Ukraine and in the nearest future we plan to launch a nationwide site with open data on medicines leftovers called \u201cEliky\u201d<\/em>, <strong>she added<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There is \u00a0a corresponding decree,\u00a0at the state level, which obliges hospitals to publish information on medicines leftovers, but it is doesn\u2019t work without political will on the ground.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<\/em><em>I am very glad that there are <\/em><em>such<\/em><em> initiatives. <\/em><em>Web-site l<\/em><em>iky.odesa.ua <\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>shows how effectively public authorities <\/em><em>and civil society <\/em><em>can cooperate <\/em><em>in order <\/em><em>to fight corruption and ensure patient<\/em><em>s<\/em> <em>medication<\/em><em>s<\/em><em>. It is easier to reform the<\/em><em> sphere<\/em><em>, when there is a common vision and desire to change the old system,<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em> <strong>said Salom<\/strong><strong>iya<\/strong><strong> Bobro<\/strong><strong>v<\/strong><strong>sk<\/strong><strong>a<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong><strong>the<\/strong><strong> Deputy Head of the Odesa Regional State Administration<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Odesa Regional State Administration and the Charitable Foundation \u201cPatients of Ukraine\u201d have joined efforts in the implementation of health reform in the Odesa Oblast and providing patients with needed medicines.
