Patients, outraged with the underfunded medicine procurement for seriously ill Ukrainians within the Draft Budget for 2016, will make a living wall in front of the Cabinet of Ministers building. 100 people will stand with nooses around their necks and cotton hoods on their heads, to the accompaniment of drum-beat that symbolizes the actual execution of Ukrainians by means of underfunded sphere of health care. They will demand to provide patients with the necessary treatment and allocate in the Budget for 2016 funds for treatment of seriously ill Ukrainians in accordance with the MoH calculations.
All-Ukrainian action “Condemned” will be held on Wednesday, December 23, at 10:00 a.m. at the address: 12/2 Hrushevskogo Street (in front of the Cabinet of Ministers building).
During the action activists will hold a short media briefing with the participation of:
- Olga Stefanyshyna, the CF “Patients of Ukraine”
- Iryna Revenko, patient diagnosed with hepatitis B and C, activist of the CF “Patients of Ukraine”
- Dmytro Sherembey, All-Ukrainian CO “All-Ukrainian Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS”
- Natalya Tymoshchyk, PO “Orphalife-Ukraine”
Only UAH 3.9 billion are allocated in the draft budget for the next year for procurement of medicine to treat HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, cancer and rare diseases. The real treatment need for severely ill patients, according to the Ministry of Health calculations, is at least UAH 8.1 billion.
Protest action is called to draw attention of the Cabinet of Ministers officials to the fact that the Budget, which they plan to approve – is the Budget that kills more than half of seriously ill Ukrainians. Therefore, Ukrainians with nooses around their necks and cotton hoods on their heads will line in front of the Cabinet of Ministers building, because the budget for treatment in the amount of UAH 3,9 billion condemns them to disability and death.
In Ukraine every day around 1600 patients die due to lack of medicines.
